One of the few things science has been unable to improve on has to be the dining room table and chairs. Probably the most practical and durable piece of furniture in the home, the dining room table is unlikely to be improved by being made smaller, faster or with a larger memory space. Yes, you can alter the design – round dining room tables are the stuff of legends – or materials by opting for glass dining room tables as opposed to a wooden ones, but the basic, simple functionality remains the same.
So, unless its tables that double as televisions or computers – surely only a matter of time now sadly – that you are after, improving on them is going to need a little imagination. Thankfully there are numerous ways to add some sparkle to otherwise dull dining room table sets, as demonstrated to great effect through the ages. For mood affecting touches try candles or flowers as they both add their own brand of magic to the proceedings. For eye catching decoration try ornate candle sticks, napkin holders, finger bowls and salt and pepper pots. Experimenting with different fabrics for the table cloth can produce interesting results provided you find something that works with the different color tones in the room.
Seasonal decorations obviously add their own magic and it is often at festive times when people go into table decoration overdrive, usually achieving great results. The point is that it doesn’t need to be a festive occasion to warrant adding some extra care to the look of the dining room table and chairs. With a little imagination you can create the look they deserve all year round.
