When people think of a dining room table, they often picture a long rectangular structure. While this is the standard design of the classic dining table, dining room tables come in many shapes and sizes. A dining table can really be any table that people eat on. The following is a list of some different types of dining tables.

If you thought the hard part was choosing the living room furniture then think again, anyone choosing a dining room table has a difficult task ahead of them, as there are quite a lot of choices. One of the first choices a person must make is the size and shape of the table. Shape actually has a lot to do with the size of a table.

The largest dining room tables are almost exclusively rectangular. This is a nod to the classic dining hall dining tables. Of course, some medieval castles featured gigantic round dining room tables in a variety of ornate shapes. However, in the modern home, rectangle is really the only way to go large. Medium tables are often rectangular, square or oval. Smaller tables are often round or triangular corner desk tables. Small tables are often pillar tables, while large tables will have at least two columns with supporting feet.

The next decision is the table’s material. The standard material is wood, and most tables are wooden. Wooden tables can be stained a variety of different ways to give them a unique look. Other less common material options include marble and glass dining room tables. Marble topped tables are very expensive and heavy. A glass dining room table requires a bit of care as it is fragile and may show dirt quite easily.

Clearly there are a few choices to be made concerning choosing the right dining room table. It is pretty important to choose the right table, as dining room table and chairs are the centerpiece of any dining room. Furniture outlets are great places to find great deals on dining room sets.
