Nothing is more frustrating for a parent than having cleaned all day and then the kids come ripping in from school to destroy the home. The first thing that they do is throw the coat on the living room furniture and head for the fridge. The closet is the last thing they are looking for, but in their defense, we probably all did the same thing when we were kids. Instead of getting mad, get a coat stand and place it by the door to give them a place to hang their things.
While some parents will say that it is sheer laziness, it is more like youthful exuberance. It is not that they don’t want to hang the coat up, it is just that at that age, they are unable to because it is the last thing on their mind. By having a coat stand right at the door, the idea of hanging up their coat will hopefully be triggered and maybe the coat will find its way onto the coat rack stands more often than not.
When shopping for coat stands, try and find something that will complement the surrounding area where it will be placed. For instance, putting up an old wooden coat stand in a modern decorated home will simply not do. It would be better to choice a modern, silver coat stand that would blend right in.
Remember, they are only children and they are not trying to disrespectful of mothers wishes, it is just in their nature to not care. Children have a tendency to have tunnel vision and the last thing on their mind is hanging up a coat when their belly is rumbling. Necessity dictates that they get to the fridge the fastest way possible and if that means the coat flies on the furniture and mom gets upset, then so be it. However, the coat stand being in their face as soon as they open the door may just save mom some aggravation and the kids from getting in trouble.
